Unitarian-Universalists have a strong belief that all persons –regardless of faith, belief systems, religious background, gender – are free to celebrate important events in their lives with a ceremony that reflects their situation.
The Lay Chaplains of the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough can provide a useful service to Peterborough and surrounding area by designing and delivering meaningful and personal ceremonies celebrating these Rites of Passage.
Our Lay Chaplains are members of our congregation who have been licensed by the province of Ontario and are specially trained to prepare them for this important work.

Unitarian–Universalists have long been champions of religious freedom and respect for different approaches to the divine dimension of existence. We recognize that different people have different needs. Consequently, ceremonies are designed to reflect the needs and wants of the couple or the family involved using universal wisdom from many religious fatihs.
You will be encouraged to openly discuss details such as choices of readings, music, meditations, prayers, and the involvement of others. We believe that those involved in the planning should come away feeling that this is very much their ceremony with memories that are heartwarming and meaningful.
Our licensed Lay Chaplains provide same–sex marriages and services of union because we believe Rites of Passage are not a privilege; they are a right.
We will be pleased to perform ceremonies at any location such as: a private home, an outdoor setting such as a garden, a public space, rented halls. The Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough has a large sanctuary which is suitable for any Rite of Passage ceremony depending on the number of guests. Please contact the Fellowship if you should wish to rent the sanctuary.
Fees for services will be discussed in advance with the Lay Chaplain.
